Seeing a suffering dog cause you pain, let alone if you have to put them to sleep. You can imagine the burden and stress you would take if you happen to be the responsible for so.
A vet and director of an animal shelter in Taiwan has reportedly ended her life after she became agitated with the number of dogs she was having to euthanise. Jian Zhicheng was the director of the Xinwu Animal Protection and Education Centre giving proper care and treatment at the shelter.

She died in hospital on May 12 after being found unconscious at the center. According to Chinese media, she left a note, in which she expressed how she had become too distressed with the fact that she had to euthanise.

She had felt great distraught after animal rights activists had sent her threatening messages calling butcher with beauty when it was aired on a television program the number of animals she had been forced to put to sleep.
Jian has been described as caring, animal lover and kind woman through the years she has worked at the center. She has always been trying to choose the best for the dogs by trying to persuade people of adopting instead of buying the dogs. Finding a home to the dogs with her goal. However, the hard part of her job is that she had been forced to euthanize 700 dogs in just two years.
She said that the animal shelter capacity is limited and many people did not understand that and they were struggling with increasing numbers of animals being abandoned.The Xinwu center’s capacity 500 dogs and 100 cats at most.

Elisa Allen, Associate Director of PETA stated the fact that there are simply not enough homes for the poor animals who are euthanized every year. Shelter workers like Jian who love animals so much take the courage do society’s dirty work because so many people fail to provide the poor dogs with a home.
