The hiccup noise she makes is part of her character but the rescue dog has a story of neglect behind the adorable bark.
Watch Betty, a Dogue de Bordeaux rescue, making a hiccup sound as she barks!
Dog owners filmed their dog barking and their rescue dog is trying to bark only to give out this adorable hiccuping sound. Dave Hardman, 42, and wife Kerry Hardman, 47, have captured their sweet rescue dog Betty at their home in Ulverston, Cumbria.
The couple took Betty as a foster dog from animal charity Dogue de Bordeaux Welfare. Betty was rescued from a neglected home back in July.
Behind that adorable barking sound, rescuers believe that Betty has been abandoned for 5 years. Her desperate barks for attention damaged her vocal cords and that led her to only make such a hiccup sound.
Now her new parents think that this tragic tale behind her sound has turned out to be one of her characteristics. It’s unique to Betty to do this sound it actually defines her. Her new parents are glad that they decided to keep Betty as their dog after staying with them for 5 months.
Graphic designer Mr. Hardman explained that her squeaky sound is not a sound you would expect from a huge Dogue de Bordeaux.
When they first got her, they thought the sound was due to excitement. But when vets examined her, they confirmed to the couple that she suffered from damage to her vocal cords. They didn’t understand how someone can lock a sweet dog in a room and ignore her like that.
When Betty arrived home, she met their other Dogue de Bordeaux, 12st Max. She was aggressive against him. But Mr. Hardman took a month off work to train her and she is now a happy dog.
